In yesterdays Salem News, it spoke about the pay increase of the current Voc that will be merging into the new one. I still continue to believe that this may have been one the most dangerous moves not only from a educational budget decision but also a city budget as well. I fear that we do not have some one like Dan Bennett that will stand up and call this new school district out and they will just take our money and run. This was the worst decision for the schools because there will be a lose of control and money leaving our school district.

Why do I get the impression that this is the pre-face to what we will be dealing with in a couple of years. Does Peabody get locked in with these higher contracts after the school merges or does the new school committee revisit all the positions ans salaries and set them. I guess that goes for teachers too. How are their salaries established and is there going to be tighter controll on their benefits...? This new voc is going to be very nice and let me tell you that everything nice comes with a very high price. It is my understanding that we legally cannot exit this school now because we have contractual obligations to pay whatever they tell us. Tell me how that will not have any impact the city and school budget. I heard the Mayor already start to use that excuse when the school budget was being argued.
ReplyDeleteThere is an opinion article from the Salem News on this. They agree with what you are saying.
ReplyDeleteWe are screwed. Another brain child by our mayor and the city council. Uncapped expenses on a yet

Sean thinks this was the best decision for the schools. Bettencourt voted against it. Enough said!
