Update to the Ice Rink
Is it really worth our money to invest 1.2 million dollars in the Ice Rink? Does everyone think the Mayor is making the right decision? I think he has come forward very quickly and has demonstrated that the infrastructure in this city has been neglected for a very long time and it appears that the City of Peabody will be creating a lot more job opportunities than the President of the United States. Ice Rink, flood mitigation, new higgins, library repairs as well as other projects that will need to get done in the next couple of years. I think it is kind of exciting at the opportunities that Peabody has but what do you think?

Yes! Ice rink is worth spending this money on. Definitely. I mean, what do you want to do? Allow city buildings to fall into disrepair like the "Steward" did. Thank God the dark days of the Bonfanti administration are now a thing of the past!
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think the cleaning of Crystal Lake is more important.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling that will be coming up as another project in the near future. Bettencourt is on the record for trying to get that dredged out. That could be a very nice place if they do the right things to the lake...
ReplyDeleteFinally, an administration that will invest in the city. I know this is a small first step, but after 10 years of seeing this city decay this was welcomed news.
ReplyDeleteCity really did decay under Bonfanti. Nice guy I guess, but he really was incompetent as mayor.
ReplyDeleteHow about cleaning up South Peabody around Browns, Big Spring and Little Spring Ponds in addition to Crystal lake. These are great recreational resources that have been neglected much to long.Though the Ice rink needs some tender loving care there are more pressing matters that need addressing that would benefit more people. I don't think many people would have an issue with raising taxes a few $100 if they saw an improvement in the way the City appears and functions.
ReplyDeleteI think the ice rink is just a start, not the end of the clean-up. The ice rink is just an easy one to bond since it's self-sustaining and will pay for itself without affecting the tax rate.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see us develop a plan to clean-up & maintain our open space (including our lakes & ponds). I have young children and we go to the local parks quite a bit and they are a total mess. Never up-kept....your lucky if the trash barrel has been emptied in weeks.
Alot of Bone-fanti messes need to be cleaned up. The guy's shameful legacy will be with us for a very long time.
ReplyDeletePlans to fix the rink were in process under bonfanti before they had to shut the place down for a while in 2010 when the ice maker burned out. They had stories about it in the weekly but I don't think it ever made the snooze.
ReplyDeleteWhat is this new flood mitigation figure??? 15 Million? Not sure of the details...
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone out there realize that Salem is Building on the river and that we WILL NOT be able to complete the 3rd phase of OUR PLAN???
Who is asleep at the wheel?
We'll certainly see.
When ,if ever, the flooding problems are resolved here in the city will some one in Salem wake up? The increased volume of water flowing into Salem will be a threat of flooding to the adjacent areas of the North River in Salem. Is it not dumb to not dredge the river deeper and wider in places along the path of the river in Salem? Holding areas [ponds] can't be built any where along the river in Peabody or Salem because of the areas around the river are already taxed by existing buildgings ,etc.
ReplyDeleteI love the comment "the steward". Thats what Bonfanti called himself. He drops all of these unfinished projects on Bettencourt. Just remember all of these bills go on Bonfantis tab. Instead of a steward he should of called himself a stewardess. He might have done a better job.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous...
ReplyDeleteWake up to reality. Same story different issue. When Torigian left it was suggested that he left a mess to his successor. Now you say the same thing about Bonfanti leaving a mess to Bettencourt. When Bettencourt leaves office 6 terms from now you will say the same thing about him, You people are a bunch of damn arm chair quarterback hypocrites.
So what are you saying, everything is perfect here? Bonfanti did a great job?
