Elections
Since this seems to be a big year for Peabody due to the Mayor stepping down, a new superintendent and a bunch of candidates running in the city council. What are you looking for from these potential candidates that would help make your decision easier come the fall/ Where would you like to see the city go towards. For example, building business, building schools, building up the downtown area or would you rather just have a very low tax base and just have the most minimal services. With your decision, how do you think it would impact the city going forward?

I think the city needs focus both on the schools and being more business friendly. Both are going to be very important to the city so that it can grow the right way. With that being said, I believe the city will need to raise taxes initially to get us back to par so since we have had such low taxes for such a very long time. Yes our taxes went up with Bonfanti but the actual dollar that we paid per $1000 was way below average and is why the cities hands are in handcuffs at the moment. We have a very large cash account and great bond ratings. Hopefully this debt issue will get resolved and we will not have any negative impact on our ability to borrow money. The next Mayor is going to need to be very strategic and if they do not have a strong plan has to how to pull the city out the mess that we have gotten ourselves into then Peabody has no chance. I want a Mayor that is going to be honest and transparent and if you believe that you will need to raise taxes then that is fine with me as along as you can show us what you are going to do with that money.
ReplyDeleteSome good info here on one of the at-large candidates. Nice job with this one, Bob. http://www.bob4councilor.com
