Delay of the Bond for the Flood Mitigation

It appears there was some debate at the finance meeting. New vs old. At the end it appears that the new beat out the old. It sounds like that Bettencourt will be more of a planner than a reactor and this could demonstrate some positive change to the city. As of tomorrow, the mayor only has a few short weeks left and I would be curious to see what he might try to pull before he steps down...What are you thoughts on this?

  1. Looks like Bonfanti wants to screw us with another huge tax increase as he walks out the door. 18 million bucks for a project that won't work. This guy takes the cake. Speaking of taking, why don't we take away his pension. Thats going to cost the city 70,000 a year for the the next 30 year or roughly 2 million bucks. He's considering running for state senate??????? What a joke that is.

  2. Anonymous said...hey PP. Your old nemesis OG is breaking a story about Slattery on his poorly read blog. You better watch out because he may have some connections.

  3. PCB's found at the Burke school. OG has it on his blog. What is going on here PP? Manning running for senate announced yesterday, Slattery is running too from what I hear. These are hot stories.

  4. Anonymous said...this blog is dead. As much as it pains me to admit it I may head over that pain in the ass's blog to see what the hell is going on in this city. It seems that PP has put this on auto pilot.

  5. Where is TT? The Twisted Tanner blog was the best?

  6. This is PP and I have not stopped. I have been dealing with some family issues and apologize. I will be on this weekend getting the blog updated and back on track.

I am so far not happy about the candidates that have come out for the Senate seat. I think there are much better out there.

With regards to the Burke School. I saw the school committee meeting and I have some friends that their children attend there and from what I told communication was a nightmare. Everyone thought that Levine is an amazing sup. but lets face facts....How are the Salem Schools and how have they been over the past 10 years...You basically had an employee telling his bosses that I did not feel the need to tell you the results and let you know what I was thinking. At a minimum he should be given a written reprimand. For someone that is not knowledgeable, he seems to make a lot of comments. Kind of like when you have a friend or family member diagnose your ailments but then say well I am not a doctor...IF aren't then don't speak. Simple

Should all the other schools and city buildings be tested? I think they should and the new mayor could be walking into a nightmare of costs. The library and now the schools are becoming dangerous. We had 10 years of no one making the real investments in our infrastructure. It is like when someone buys a home that is new and runs it to the ground. They either move or have to fix multiple items. Thats how govt works too. They do not upkeep their buildings like you do your home and attempt to keep it as new as long as they can. The new leadership needs to start to take a different approach and find ways to continue to service these buildings so that we do not get hit with these substantial bills all at once. Lets hope that he has a plan.

Once again I apologize for being MIA. I am very thirsty to discuss the issues and would like to get back to this thing. The city is going to have alot of challenges from the gates next year or in a few weeks how ever you want to say it and maybe people will realize that is was due to the style of leadership. He has left us with a huge nest egg but was it worth the cost of the issues with the city's infrastructure....

  7. No comments on the double murder? Really?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Why should they be any comments about the murders when this site is called Peabody Politics. Unless there is some thing that would make the murders political then there shouldn't be any comment.

  9. So, let me get this straight, a double murder in our city isn't worth discussing? Our city is turning into Lynn II...and you would rather discuss this grass vs turf nonsense? Wow, no wonder this city is falling apart. Let's ignore the MURDERS and talk about recycling a little more. Brilliant.

I think what you meant to say was "unless the murders have something to do with how great Ted Bettencourt is then there shouldn't be any comment."

  10. On second thought, let me humor your little "politcal game."

Do you think that our crumbling school system and our deteriorating downtown have anything to do with the increasing criminal activity in our city?

Should there be more police presence in these areas? Why isn't there?

Are the schools so bad and the police presence so scarce because all we care about in this city is low taxes?

I think we have the right to feel safe in the city we live in, and I think the city administration is responsible to ensure this.

Are stories like this scaring young families away from Peabody? If so, is this lowering our property values?

What is the new mayors plan to address the above issues?

  11. Love the last post.....

"Do you think that our crumbling school system and our deteriorating downtown have anything to do with the increasing criminal activity in our city?"

Doesn't that just sum everything? Welcome to Bonfantiville

January 2nd can't come soon enough

  12. I'm sorry if you took my comments about the murders way out of context. What I was saying is that this site is entitled Peabody Politics and I'm sure its not the police blotter. Unless it is a politically motivated killing[s] then it doesn't belong here. Why dont you open a site to address the police and fire related and allow for opinions, etc.? BTW, How active are you in reporting what you see or feel is of wrong doing to the proper authority? I bet your another one of those persons who looks the other way instead of standing tall to make the city a better place to live in. Try to remember what Roosevelt said about fear.

  13. Let's keep this civil and not make personal attacks. You know nothing about me, and if you did you would realize how wrong you actually are. For the record, I am not the one shying away from having an open and adult conversation about this.

I listed several points in my last post that you couldn't/didn't want to address.....all of which explore the politics connected to this unfortunate event.

Please don't resort to juvenile name-calling when you have nothing to contribute to the conversation.

  14. 12/20@7:07 PM, I'm 12/20 6:31 PM and I'm asking you if it is me you are addressing to be civil and not make personal attacks? If so then where was I being uncivil, etc. Yes , I do not know you any more than know me. If you think a crumbling school system and a deteriorating down town are the reasons for this unfortunate event that happened you haven't looked far enough back . The family teaching to respect others and to stay away from things that are contrary to a good life and up bringing is where it all starts. I'm not saying your wrong ,however,I am saying what is taught at home and in schools could be much better when it comes to society in general and how we can better serve everyone in that regard. The down town is no different than any where else here or out of town. As for here all you have to do is look at the better parts of the city. West Peabody has had its crimes with drugs, shootings ,burglaries, etc. Does that make that area of the city any better than the rest? As for police protection I say let them give kids a kick in the ass and take them home so the parents can give them another one for what they did. Of course!!that wont happen after all it would be called abuse by both entities wouldn't it? I don't have all the answers just as you haven't the answers but I'm from the old school where one showed respect at home and outside of home and didn't blame others for any wrong doings I got into. I still say this site is not the place to discuss the murders because of its title and intended content. Yes, I'm upset about two young people dieing from gun fire and want to see justice served in this unfortunate happening but this isn't the place for it. What led up to it is what I want to know. Its to bad we couldn't see what these young adults would turn out to be later in life if they had not been killed. Again, it starts in the home and then outside the home so please do not blame the schools and the down town alone for this ,and ,yes ,what about the places of worship stressing what they preach more diligantly. Lets hear from the administrator on what he/she thinks about this in regards to the sites intent. Sorry for the rant but I too am as upset that this did happen.
