There is a New Entertainment Idea Proposed....

SIX Debates!!!  Not 2 or 3 but SIX debates....Once again it appears Fitzgerald is sending personal letter to Bettencourt and carbon copying everyone in the city....

Do we really need SIX debates?  This sounds like more of a tactic to help Fitzgerald cover some ground that he has been trying to catch up on since he has not help a sign or sent out any sort of mailer up until now...

What are you thoughts and how many debates do you want to see?  God, this sounds like overkill if you ask me.  I can see three, maybe 4 but this sounds like an outrages request and once again I feel like it is an attempt to have Bettencourt look bad if they turn down that amount.

But I want to know what everyone is thinking about this and how many do you think is right.

This is going to be a long campaign season.  BTW Do you think Fitzgerald may want to know that there might be a need for some other debates in the city with City Council and maybe this campaign race is more about the city than just the guys running for Mayor?  Wow!

  1. So there was an update to the article. Bettencourt responded he would do a reasonable amount of debates. So what does that mean? Fitzgerald says the people who he is talking to wants these debates. What is everyone's thoughts on this? What do you want? Sounds like there is definitely one now set for a month before the election.

I think if you did one a month starting at the end of this month that would be plenty. Any takers?

  2. PP,

I think as much as important as the number of debates, I think the topics are as important.
Perhaps your readers could pose some topics.

Since both candidates are experienced in public administration and politics, we should expect indepth responses from the candidates.

I will to glad to share some ideas.

  3. Not shocked to see that this is yet another anti-Fitzgerald / pro-Bettencourt blog. There are certain strategy's that you haters aren't smart enough to comprehend. There are a myriad of issues facing Peabody's future right now, 1 debate or 2 debates can not cover all of the issues.

Can not wait to see Russ's signs with Mayor scribbled out and At Large written in crayon.

  4. I have not decided on either candidate. I find it interesting that Mr. Fitzgerald comes out with these direct letters to his opponent and also releases them publicly. He did this on the Mayor's appointments too. I have not seen any article yet where Bettencourt is sending Fizgerald letters with demands. Maybe we will soon.

Also, I think I made a remark about Bettencourts broad statement with regards to the number. It was elusive and I indicated that. I think it would have been better for him to provide an alternative instead of a broad statement but that is just me, a citizen of Peabody...

BTW I do not think anyone is stopping either candidate to utilize their websites and donations to get the word out to Peabody about what they stand for and how they are going to attack the issues. In some ways I get concerned with debates being more showy and not really discuss the issues. I would love to have the Peabody Patch offer a question once every couple of weeks that the candidates could answer on the record and neither one would know how they responded to it until it was released by the Patch.

The previous blog you are mentioning questioned

Why not have 100 debates? They are MEANINGLESS since 90% of the voters won't see them. Only insiders will see debates, and they already have their minds made up. Who ever is most popular will win this thing and right now that looks like Ted. Bettencourt does not seem to have one enemey in the entire city, while many people view Fitzy as an obnoxious prick. You know what, though, at least with Fitzy what you see is what you get. I can really respect that actually. Can't vote for him but I can respect it. I might actually write in Russ Donovan. Well, maybe not. Just wanted to get Russ all excited!
