Peabody In the News

Mayor Mikey will be honored with the Ankeles Award and Teddy was given a thumbs up for his decision to hire a chief of Staff when he steps in as Mayor. In other states news, Sean appears to not have gone back to a very warm welcome based on the comments in the Plaistow news via the Eagle Tribune...Guess two out of three aint bad.....

Also, looking at the upcoming city council meeting, am I seeing this right, is Spanos asking the city council to reappoint him for another two years? If so, do you think they will pull the trigger or wait for Bettencourt to step in...I am sure there are a lot of people wondering what is going to happen to their jobs in the coming year...

  1. I think Spanos does a great job as City Clerk. No need for Ted to make a change there.

  2. Removal of Spanos wouldn't be a good move for the city. He and his whole staff should stay in place because of they do great things together work wise and dealing with the public. jmho

  3. I read the article on the patch on how we are short of fireman. Why do we need to hire a chief of staff? Let's see who it is. If its some hack from the campaign bettencourts off to a bad start.

  4. any thoughts of who Bettencourt might consider for his Chief of Staff?

  5. I smell more sloppy wet kisses from Mcgeney being showered on Bettencourt. Here come the hackerama looking for a pension.

  6. If Mcgenney were to be his chief of staff then this city will be done. There has got to be better!

  7. is. It is Fitzgerald. He and the mayor elect are friends from way back and Fitzgerald most certainly is well qualified for the job. Politics do make strange bed fellows. In this case both have the experience to run the city and make it great to live in once again. Think about this and it is jmho.

  8. Fitzgerald as Bettencourts chief of staff? Thats the stupidist thing I've ever heard. If were being stupid here, why doesn't he appoint Mike Garabedian. Can you imagine the dumb comments coming out of the mayors office. "Hey there's a guy on the phone whose house is flooded out". "Tell him to wait a few days and the water will go down and ask him if he needs a new car"!

  9. After this election, there is no way Sean and Ted are friends. Sean was very aggressive and harsh to Ted and they will be civil but the reality is that they are not friends.

I do wonder who it will be though...

  10. It wasn't Sean who was harsh. It was the mean spirited little shrimp in the mayors office. He was "outraged" at Bettencourt and then came the triple A bond insult. He blew the race for Sean.
Good by and good riddens to so called "education mayor."

  11. Oh the mentor of Sean...The man that had more experience than anyone else to be mayor....

  12. Mentor......Mentor.....HA HA HA HA HA HA..
I just crapped my pants. Now I know why Sean lost! Mentor, he couldn't mentor a goldfish.

  13. If both were or are friends then how can anyone be against them working together for a better city. Both had and have good ideas of how things should progress and should be done. No doubt about it ,politics are a dirty game but in the end if these two men are sincere about the city and its people then they'd be a great team. When one runs for office a lot of things are said by not only them but mostly by their supporters. All you have to do is look back at the prior blogs to see that. What didn't see is these two attacking each other as did the supporters of both of them. If the mayor elect wants a chief of staff then it should be Fitzgerald . What better way of showing any burying of the hatchet ,a hatchet that may not even exist between these two men and for good governing in the city?

  14. First off anyone that knows Sean knows that he does not want to answer to anyone...This idea from the Sean supporters is an absurd joke. He has a better shot becoming the town Manager of Ipswich which would never happen...

  15. first... You who knows so much.Read the past blogs and see that they both were friendly early in their lives and just maybe now!! With all the corruption and and crap locally [past]that has gone on for years on end in the local and state you should think about what has been said here and in my other blogs. I'm tired of the "Dark City" attitudes and I think it is time for these two men to do great things in the city. Both do have back rounds in the city government and could and would do wonderful things even if I do not always trust lawyers as governing officials. Again ,I am not saying Bettencourt is one of them. As for Fitzgerald answering to anyone he did with the outgoing mayor, Bonfanti, and the so called greatest mayor of all times ,as described by some,Peter Torigian. I stand by my comments at 7:19 AM knowing they can be the greatest team to bring back the honesty in directing good government and to taxpayers welcoming . If you or the many others here can not see this then you are not only blind your all not of an open mind to better things for the city its growth and its residents. Of course this is JMHO but obviously not yours!

  16. Sean never worked for for Torigian, they were on a committee together. Very different.

When Sean was working for Bonfanti, he created a lot of enemies and was kicked out of a lot of peoples offices because this attitude of not wanting to listen to other people.

Ted was friendly with Sean for years and not the other way around. Sean would love to be friends with Ted because it would help him to be able to associated with such a good person. What is said for soundbites in the news is so false of what the reality is that you need to have some more drinks to actually believe this dribble. The most I would see is a position on a committee and even that is really stretching it....

    ReplyDelete
  17. How do you think Sean got the job with Bonfanti? He had to work for Torigian in some if not some obscure way. After all Torigian was a long time mayor that held the office for so many years and had many working for him in and out of the cities work force. From what I read both Sean & Ted were friends with each other growing up and it wasn't just playing sports .Why don't you ask them of this and make one or both of us right?

    ReplyDelete
  18. 12:21, You said that Ted was a friend of Sean and not the other way around. Friends are just that ...friends by mutual respect etc. To believe what you claim in last paragraph is a reach because one can't be a friend unless they both acknowledge one another as such. They both did as I hear it. Your glass of choice liquid has a hole in it and is dribbling down your shirt and pants to say the least.

  19. Check my phrasing; friendly and not friends....Major difference of those two words. A friend is someone you can trust. With all the BS Sean spread about Bettencourt I would hardly ever think that he would call Sean a friend. I for one do not label too many people friends. I say that I know them or I talk to them but to say you are my actual friend needs to be a lot more than you are friended on Facebook. The word friend has been watered down to really mean that you know the person and you may chat on occasion. Years ago a friend use to mean that you could trust them without hesitation. When you are friendly it means that you will bite your tongue and be respectful but not tell them your secrets.

The reason why Bettencourt got into office is because he is a very friendly individual and people like to be made to feel respected. Sean is not a friendly person, he like Mikey just want to tell you what they have done and not what you have to say. I feel like every time I speak to Sean there is some angle or sales pitch and I am going to walk away like I just got taken...

These two guys are from the same neighborhood but they are very different today on many levels. Sean's campaign was dirty with the attempts to call out Bettencourt and people do not forget. Sean would have done anything to win this race and deal with the mess afterwards and at times he did. This is the reason why it will never be with him as a chief of staff. All you Sean supporters need to wake up and really look at what your candidate is and was...

  20. From what I have heard, McGeney wants a buildings superintendent job. Gamache wants Howcroft's job. This will leave two positions to be appointed by the CC.

Odds on favorite for ward 5 would be Croce and McGeney's replacement would be Russell.

  21. Can somebody please explain what the hairy ankles
award is and why our pint sized mayor is receiving it? Is this similar to the Ferris Wheel award given out by the chamber of commerce.

  22. Congratulations to the Peabody Girl's soccer team!

Also,I just read on the patch that the assessor will be visiting houses soon...what happens if a resident refuses to them in? They can't just barge in or anything, so what do they do?

    ReplyDelete
  23. You have to raise taxes 11 years in a row, demolish a great school system, pollute the public drinking water, minimize trash pick up (while paying more $$), limit services, make up phoney holiday pay for siblings and their unions, and install $550k worth of windows in city hall...all while talking about all of the work you've done to minimize flooding (which we saw last month) is a joke to win the Hairy Ankles Award.

  24. Can someone please answer my question about the assessor? Or is this blog pretty much dead since the election is over; and it is no longer needed to advertise for the candidates?

    ReplyDelete
  25. The blog is alive and well but news is rather sparse. I think it you don't permit entry they will take note of it and attempt to make another attempt. What they might do is average you compare to the other homes in the neighborhood. So lets say your neighbors have done a lot of work on their homes and they get increased values, you could get a negative impact meaning your value will be accessed slightly higher since they are going to make assumptions. To fight a assessment is a pain in the butt because I have done it in the past where there are items they are listing on my property that don't exist anymore and weren't there at the time of purchase. I think you might be harming yourself by not letting them in unless you did a lot of work without permits. I do not believe that they would write you up for work that was not done with permits but they will take into consideration if you added a bathroom or finish your basement since it would add to livable square footage that they can then assess value on the new sq footage. The city spends a lot of money on it so they will take it somewhat seriously.

  26. OK, NO NEW NEWS?

Fred Berry recently announced his decision to retire.

Who do you think will run for his seat?

Do you think others will shuffle around for other seats if, say Speliotis should give it a shot?

    What do you all think?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anon,

What was your question about the assessor?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Berry's seat will be filled by Spilliotis. He is the only one that has good name recognition in the multiple cities. Sean lost his chance at running because he would have to quit to do so. No sure if someone like Dan Bennett is up for the challenge or if he would wait and let Ted take the senate seat and then he would run for that rep seat.

BTW I am not crazy about Ted S. but the guy does get around and he has a decent following...

    ReplyDelete
  29. The other option that has been out there is that maybe our guy Mikey may be up for it. I did not want to blog about it because it is way too soon. I was hoping to give it a few weeks to ferment before we start pushing the topic.

I am very happy that the funding came through on the downtown and hope to hear more from the city council on that. We could always talk about public drinking and pooping by the library and AOH but that may ruin my appetite for turkey....

  30. Bonfanti running for Senate. I read the article in the Salem news this morning. He defintely won't get my vote. As mayor he consistently blamed the governor and the legislature for all of Peabodys problems. He would get nothing done up there and would really hurt Peabodys chance to get state money.
