Sean Fitzgerald for Mayor

Please use this post to list why you believe he should be the next Mayor of Peabody.  Please do not use this post to disparaged either candidate.  I want to hear how he will do good for the city of Peabody.  Any negative lashing of either candidate will be removed.  I have a feeling this will be a challenge but I also think this will be a great exercise that we can get some good points on each candidate.

  1. Ok. This may get interesting. Fitzgerald unbridled may be a scary creature for the Bettencourt campaign. More importantly, the election results will now more honestly answer a fundamental question about municipal politics that I have been wondering since this race was in its nascency: Can Bettencourt's pockets beat Fitzgerald's work ethic? Truly, within the campaign's most crucial months, an immovable financial force meets an immovable physical force. I like this, at the very least, as a revealing social experiment regarding our city.

  2. I posted a comment on the two candidates without supporting either yet in the Bettencourt post as it seems to be where the discussion is taking place.

  3. Give it time for the Fitzgerald posters to respond. Your comment of neutrality has been, well as it were, exposed by the -"yet in the Bettencourt post as it seems to be where the discussion is taking place". If you were neutral as you claim you would not have wrote what you did in order to be neutral. Shame on you for not thinking about that before you wrote the comment.

  4. OG says...Fitzgerald will get no votes from the Bonfanti bashers since he will be perceived to be if you like Mike then vote for Sean candidate....but if he were not running against Bettencourt he would be our next Mayor...but Teflon Ted has too much name recognition among the mindless and spineless Dark City voters...give it up Sean...it ain't gonna happen.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Give it up? It is just beginning for Fitzgerald now that effective today he has taken a 60 day leave from his position of town manager in Plaistow ,N.H. This is when Bettencourt should be afraid of what Fitzgerald has in mind to share with the cities voters. This action by him shows me his real intentions of winning the mayors seat.

  6. Imagine being a Plastow taxpayer. This guy is running out on you to audition for another gig. Either they are pissed up in podunk or they're really really stupid. By the way Sean getting thumped has little to do with Teddy. I can think or six or seven others in the city who would destroy him in an election. OG you are wrong. Sean has never won or even come close to winning an elective office. If Sean was not the town manager in Plastow, he might be working alongside Garabedian selling cars.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Well, here is my unbiased opinion. Sean is definitely not as likeable as Ted, which is going to really hurt. Sean does seem to have more substance than Ted when it comes to what he would do to turn things around.

But neither of these guys are exactly "visonaries." Still can't believe this is our ONLY choice for mayor.

I think Ted wins easy. But wouldn't it be fun to have Sean around to be a bad ass when it comes to dealing with weenie city councilors like Manning and Gravel? You think Jim Liacos is a grumpy old man now? Just imagine how surely he would be with Sean telling him what to do.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Ghost, My friend in Plaistow said to tell you that they already have someone to take his place while he is gone for the two months. The guy doesn't want the job permanently and is doing the town a favor by taking his place. He says there isn't anyone pissed at Fitzgerald and will welcome him back if he were not to be elected mayor. Where and who are the others you talk about that would thump Fitzgerald. Are you talking out of some true knowledge or are you full of crap? Why haven't these anonymous people you talk about running against Fitzgerald and Bettencourt in this election? I'd never vote for Ted but would in a heart beat for Fitzgerald. We all want change but I'm afraid that Ted would bring nothing but trouble to the office and I do wonder why he wants the job as a lawyer. Is it because he isn't a good one as someone said before and why elect a lawyer when they generally have done a bad job in the offices they have held. Just look at the political court cases to see what I mean. That alone is why I'd vote for Fitzgerald and also because he has the political back round to do the job.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Hey Jenn,. I think it is time to give it a rest with the maybe he is not a good lawyer. You are the same person to say it before and before that. Bettencourt may have a different belief system that he does not place money as being successful. Anyway, doesn't he live on one of the nicer streets in West Peabody. Hmm wonder how he would afford that on a city salary....? Oh wait, maybe he IS a damn good lawyer that not only does well but also was able to save. The reality is this job is something he has always wanted. He has been very public about that. Now lets get our facts straight and this is in no way bashing fitzgerald but based on record, he has never won a public election. Bettencourt had the most votes in the city for councilor at large....Fitzgerald has not held a professional job outside of government. Bettencourt has ran his own law office. So instead of writing something that make come across as libel, lets stick to the facts and run a more ethical campaign. It is pretty simple. The rumors that I have heard is that it is getting a little bit dirty with someones tactics and as many people have said before nothing is sticking to tephlon ted....

So what do the call someone that continues to do the same thing over and over with the same result? Insane...

    ReplyDelete
  10. This isn't Jenn but I do want to comment on your remarks. In todays society and economic woes it takes money to be a part of it. If Ted were such a great success at his learned trade as a lawyer then why is he running for mayor. He has a family and it takes money to make a family florish ,etc. The street he lives on makes no difference as for his wealth or poorness. If he were so wealthy he would move out of the city to a much more affluent rubbing elbows with a richer clientle to make all the more of his supposed success as a lawyer. Ted may have some of our local council expierance but he hasn't the training as Sean does. Sean may be employed in a small town but that only helps him because of his political back round and training .I see no libel in what was written in the remarks by anonymous . If any thing he makes a truth and that is not libel. I agree that the election is getting a bit dirty and that is to be expected. Truman said if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen and that too applies in any election. Ted and his supporters should think about that before they go further with the " little bit dirty" tactics you describe. Having been on this site since its beginning I can say Ted's supporters, maybe a ted family member as well, were the ones who started this "little dirty" thing. I could go on but I have to go to work.

  11. Ted B. is an attorney with a very small, non-descript practice, and has for a decade held the easiest job in Peabody politics (councilor at-large). Sean has a couple of years experience as town manager of a tiny little town in NH, and before that held a couple of hack political jobs. He has never been elected to public office, nor really worked that much in the private sector.

Personalities aside, let's face it, neither of these guys is qualified to be mayor of such a large and complex community as Peabody.

But this is our only choice, I guess, so hold your nose and pick one. Maybe one of these jokers will grow into the job and be a great mayor. It didn't happen with Obama or Bonfanti, but miracles still do happen.

    ReplyDelete
  12. One doesn't have to hold their nose to vote. They can avoid the polling place and avoid their duty to vote. They have to realize that if they do then they have nothing to complain about until the next election is held with better candidates running. Another anon. person said there were other so called candidates that he/she could think of to run against them both now running for the mayors seat. If that is so where are they ? These same people didn't throw themselves into the race and were never heard from to say they were interested to run as best I know. You have to pick one of the two and my choice is Fitzgerald because of his political knowledge and back round. I do agree that as a lawyer Bettencourt should do what another anon.person said . He should go to another bigger law firm or become another Barry Fenstien. That is if he hasn't become wealthy in his small non-descript practice as you have mentioned here!

    ReplyDelete
  13. There are way smarter people who would be way better mayors than either of these guys. Why aren't they running? Because it's not about talent and ability, it's about popularity. The current mayor is a dope of the highest order. But he has tremendous name recognition and keeps getting re-elected because of it. We have at-large councilors who are dopes, but they keep getting re-elected because they are well known.

Spare me with the Fitzgerald has "political knowledge" bullcrap. We need someone who has strong business acumen. and neither of these guys are really qualified in that regard.

So, yes, I will hold my nose and pick Bettencourt. Why? Because I'd rather vote for a nice unqualified guy over a weasily unqualified guy. Sorry, Sean, you are just not very likeable.

    ReplyDelete
  14. After you vote I hope you wash your hands, especially the one that held your nose before you cast the ballot with your choices.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I have driven all over the city and I do not see any signs for Sean. Has he put any out? I have not received a flyer, has he sent any out? Does he realize that he has less than two months before the race will be over? For someone that has negotiated time away from his job he does not seem like he is even ready to really take this campaign on. I have seen more Ben Russell signage. You would think that guy is running for mayor and not school committee. He seems to be much more organized than Sean is....

    ReplyDelete
  16. OG says...who has the most signs? who seems to be likeable? whose name do I recognize? These are excellent examples of why we have no progress here in Dark City. There is no substance or expectation of substance from our candidates. The electorate is largely uninformed. Our shallow political season is truly two months long at best. No candidate really is oushed to offer any accountable positions on issues. OG watched the Ward 3 Councilor candidates on You Make the Call tonight. It was an embarassment of quality and substance. Since when did the ability to speak clearly in public become a non essential trait for our political candidates? Should the 'why do you want to be Ward 3 councilor' be a stumper of a question that is not simply answered with mindless cliches about change and accessibilty....God help us all here in Dark City...and that's how OG sees it...

  17. Is it just me or is this rat bastard closing fast in the polls? Had two people today say they were voting for him and these are two people who are new to Peabody. I just do not think this is going to be easy for Mr. Bettencort.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I am starting to believe that Sean may be picking up some momentum. I have started to see more signs popping up all over. Even in Ted's backyard of Peabody. I wonder if Sean's friends in high places are starting to turn up the gears in the background and start to give him a little more torque...I have to say that I did not see a lot of Sean's people at International fest or him for that matter. Ted was all over and his supporters were drapped in his shirts. I also heard that Ted has a much lower than expected turnout for his party Saturday night. I heard they were blasting out emails on Saturday to increase the turnout...I wonder if he peaked to early and now his campaign is crashing...

    ReplyDelete
  19. The room was still full at the Ted FR. You are a lunatic. That room is huge. He might of had a couple hundred fewer than last time but there were still definitely more than 500 people there which still makes it one of the biggest FR crowds of alltime. His campaign is not crashing, Sean, it's just getting rolling.

To be honest I hope Ted did not spend much time at that lame festival this weekend since 80% of the people there are not even from Peabody. It is a way overhyped event and I hope Ted spent more of his time knocking on doors.

    ReplyDelete
  20. There were so many tables in that room and there was a bunch that were not even being used. His DJ was rude and I was one of the people standing there ignoring...I think that had to do with the lack of people that were at the tables and that the room wasnt filled. Who ever is his speech writer needs to be fired. It was horrible and very forced. That is not what I have seen in the past with him.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Why did you attend if you are so negative about the guy? I agree the speech wasn't great but Ted is a good guy who will work hard. Why are you so down on him?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Here we go again -- it is like eating our own young. What is wrong with you people!?!? If Sean gets elected it will be like the dark prince getting elected. Ted is a white knight. Sean is a young Darth Vader.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Sean is like Darth Vader and Obama. You need to get to the worst possible place to gain a great opportunity and wake people up. Maybe we need Sean to make it worse...You didnt see how well Sean did with the blind person needing assistance in his commercial? He is trying to come a cross as the white knight. Go to youtube and good his wbsite address to see his commercials...

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sean is the type of person who would step on a baby bird when no one is watching, and then do a YouTube video on how he found this poor injured baby bird and began nursing it back to good health. What a great humanitarian!

    ReplyDelete
  25. He was at the Peabody Raiders game on Sunday talking to an older couple. Literally a young attractive woman walked by him and his head did a full turn and focus on her and he left the older couple in mid discussion to go introduce himself to her...It was hysterical!!! Guess he has good taste...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Makes me want to vote for him now! And I was previously gonna vote for Bettencourt!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Just keep making shit up.. This election is a lot tighter than some people think..

    ReplyDelete
  28. Nah. The day Sean wins mayor is the day that dogs lie down with cats, and Ann Manning becomes a hot chick. Did I say dogs would lie down with cats? Hello? Hello?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I doubt that he did as you say. You Bettencourt supporters will do any thing to get a vote for Ted . All men of all ages do appreciate beauty even if they are to old to be "manly" in the pursuit of a woman. The female could have been Teds sister or one of the other family members spying on Fitzgerald at the game .

    ReplyDelete
  30. I am not stretching the truth at all with regards to Sean dropping conversation for another person walking by. I wish I had my camcorder going at that point. It would have made for a great follow-up to his blind commercial that he did. Helping a damsel in distress...Oh wait, he caused the distress when he went up to her because she could not escape.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Uh oh, that cutey Anne Manning is getting jealous. Her boy toy shouldn't be looking at other women like that!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Another Teddy supporter heard from. What they wont do to support him even if its hurtful comments and not with any truth to get a vote for Teddy who they claim is a soft wonderful cuddly teddy bear. How desperate can you get? I guess the Bettencourt team is really worried they will lose the election after all.

    ReplyDelete
  33. All I said that is stopped midstream and go after the other person. I said he had good taste. I did not say that he was trying to hool up with her which I am sure he was not. I just thought it was comical thats all people. Something you see over exaggerated on tv. He is a husband and father and I have no doubt he is great at both.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Once this race is over, at least he can go back to Plastow and maybe grind a little bit with Annie at the Plastow High prom.

    ReplyDelete
  35. If Sean wins and Anne loses, you know she will get an appt. position so she can still cause mayhem. I really hope people realize what is going on in the city of how this group of the Bonfanti era is trying to keep everything the way it is and slowly destroy this city.

Here is my big question and maybe Sean will answer it. Why now? Have you seen your area of town. It is not in the best shape. Why have no you not been fighting publically to get some attention to fix up the area at a minimum as a concerned citizen? For someone that is so profound NOW, you come across as very disingenious and are looking to just be incharge and be the center of attention. Almost forcing people to have to listen and talk to you...

    ReplyDelete
  36. 6/20,8:50, From what you wrote I ,too, were under the impression you were doing your Teddy best to discredit Fitzgerald by innuendo . If its your way of your apologizing for your careless remarks of your written observation it doesn't work for me. Next time think before you write another "observation" before you receive another put down by some another writer[s] here.

    ReplyDelete
  37. If you look at my first comment it was an observation that I thought was funny. there was NO innuendo. Maybe you have perception issues. I never implied anything other than the stopage of conversation for someone else. My thoughts on it had to do with his physical reaction to the situatation. That is it! It would be the same if someone made an obnoxious expression at a comment. You can have very different perceptions of why it is happening. I wanted to clarify bc I knew you would take it as bashing where I took it as humerous and nothing more. It happens to me too and yes my wife has smacked me for it. The guy is human like all of us men! I actually like some of Sean's ideas. I just don't like his tone. It makes it a very difficult decision on election day.

    ReplyDelete
  38. The problem with Sean is that he thinks he knows it all when in fact he doesn't know shyte. He's been town manager of Mayberry for a little while and before that was a Bonfanti and Torigian coat holder. OK so I agree that the other guy isn't exactly FDR either, but this is our only choice.

At least Ted knows he will have to grow into the job. Meanwhile, Sean comes off like he invented the mayor's office in Peabody. I'd rather vote for the humble guy who will learn on the job, than the guy who thinks he knows more than he does.

Sean, get a clue, your act turns people off. Try talking to people once in a while instead of talking at them. Take a breath, dude, and listen once in a while.

I am saying all of this as someone who is NOT a member of Ted's campaign team. I'm swear on my kids that I am neither a Bettencourt campaign worker or family member.

This is just how I feel. Both candidates are inexperienced. But your guy thinks he's some elder statesman who knows everything. He reminds me a lot of how Obama handles himself. And we all know how "well" that's going.

    ReplyDelete
  39. When you consider them think of this... Teddy has the council back round but not the past three mayors ,as you say, coat holding by Fitzgerald. If he were not good at his ,as you say coat holding job, then why did he last as long in the years as he did through three mayors? That gives Fitzgerald more political knowledge and back round than Teddy ever has had or can have to run the city. Fitzgerald has led a small towns government as town manager and that is to his credit even if it is in a small N.H. town. That town may be in N.H. and not here but it has given him more the tools to become mayor by his having the position. Just on the qualifications of Fitzgerald's past work efforts as I've mentioned here I can see my voting for him in a heart beat as compared to Teddy.

    ReplyDelete
  40. SEAN DOES NOT RUN PLAISTOW!!!!! OH MY GOD!!!!! The Board of Selectman DO!!!! HE is still a FLIPPING COAT HOLDER!!!!! Always being told what to do!!!!! HE HAS NEVER ONE A ELECTED POSITION!!!! Why doesn't everyone that believes he has all this political experience understand why he has NEVER one an election with ALL this political experience???? Like earlier posts have stated, he DOES NOT listen when he interacts with someone. HE JUST DOES WHAT BONFANTI DOES....TAKES CREDIT FOR OTHER PEOPLES WORK. NEVER do you hear Bonfanti say it was a team effort when you speak with him one on one. JUST LIKE SEAN!!!! I'D rather have someone that has a more balanced background of not only living here, but running a business and serving in an elected capacity is MUCH more important than pretending and never really doing anything....Ted may lack the pretend experience Sean extolls on everyone and I like that. Why? Beacause he knows that he needs to learn, grow and adapt and also....what listen for it...work as a TEAM!!!! In my opinion, Ted is much more sincere than Sean and my gut tells me that he would do a hell of a job compared to him!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. This is true. I think Ted does realize that it takes a team to get things done. Sean thinks he knows everything himself. The dude has an over-inflated view of himself. He's just not that smart, though, and you can't wait to get away from him after talking to him for 2 minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  42. 9/20@717PM, If your so certain that Teddy is such a great choice for mayor as a business man[lawyer] can you answer me this? Will he be a full time mayor giving up his practice to serve? Will he be going into courts while he is supposed to be in the mayors office full time on a daily basis? Fitzgerald may not have had an elective office but he has appeared in his town managers job full time on a daily basis w/o another job that would take him away from his duties. His long time involvement in politics is - as another blogger said - far better than Ted and his council stint. The end of election time in near and when it is over it will be Fitzgerald that gets the mayors seat. People today do not trust lawyers as politicians and rightly so. People want to stop all the costly political "antics",if you will, at each level of government . That is if in case you haven't noticed that trend in todays world. A vote for Sean Fitzgerald is a vote in that direction for the peoples desires for honest government in these times of political turmoil and economic strife we all are having to endure.

    ReplyDelete
  43. First off Ted has made it public that he will not be practicing law if he becomes Mayor. He has on more than one occasion recused himself from voting for potential conflicts. Ted is a very ethical person based on that and other examples. You say people do not trust lawyers. Well I think people do not trust political hacks and I think there is someone in the race that their whole career experience represents. BTW, honest government? I have heard way too many stories of how Sean treated individuals when he was just a lacky. God knows what would happen if he was Mayor....That would be the time that I sell my house!!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Baaaaa Ha Haaaaa. Sean's wife talking about how he has been a "fulltime" town manager in Plastow. Meanwhile, he just ran out on them to audition for a new job. And, oh yeah, the hicks up in Mayberry say it's OK, we'll take you back when you lose. Talk to not focusing on his job. Right now, because of his so called leave of absence, Fitzy is the poster boy for not focusing on his job.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Please explain to me why this guy thinks he has any stake above any other citizen of Peabody? He is in the patch today demanding the city council to pass downtown like he is already the mayor someone who is delusional...if people don't realize how crazy he is for doing this then I do not know what else to say!!!

Next he will DEMAND us all to vote for him and then change the bi-laws to make him king...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Because of all the foolish back and forth rants I have to ask where are or were the several candidates some one said should, could, and would run for the seat of mayor. Why didn't you the person who said that give us the names of the could, should and would before the primary or the time you said this. It certainly would have stopped this bashing of both mayoral candidates by having more than just two running for the office. It seems there are more bloggers on this site that are just blowing smoke out of their arses to be heard . Your stink isn't ice cream nor is the excrement you write about.---Sorry ,I couldn't resist my rant but it is what you do when you say tall tales and misleading statements towards one and both candidates. If I were to say that the Teddy supporters are the worst as compared to Fitzgeralds I wont say I'm wrong in that but you will just to keep the foolishness on going.

    ReplyDelete
  47. OK. I do profess to be a neutral bystander. I swear to you that I still have not decided who I will vote for, but that also does not make it unfair for me to state that neither of these guys are exactly the most qualified or experienced to be mayor.

Then again, that's OK because that's the way it is in politics -- ALL OF THE TIME. It even happens at the highest level: didn't we, after all, elect one of the most unqualified guys to be president three years ago?

All that said, and to respond to the last poster, I could name 10 people I know right now who are more qualified to be mayor than either of these guys. Who are they? It wouldn't matter because you probably wouldn't know most of them.

And this is exactly my point. Good, qualified people seldom run. Why? Well, there are a lot of reasons but a big one is that they could never get elected because politics is ALL about popularity.

It isn't what you know, but who you know and who knows you. It's also how you present yourself (didn't we all learn that the hard way when it came to Obama?)

So, there you go: I said. So, the choice is clear, pick one, write someone in, or stay home and don't vote.

Case closed on this silly argument.

    ReplyDelete
  48. i can pick one given the choice of the two running. I,too, am disappointed there weren't more to pick from. I ,too, feel that you and the other person are not being fair when you say you both can think of other people who can make good or great candidates for the mayors seat or any other office. Why say these things when you both will not say who you both think would make good / great candidates? You are either afraid to say who or you are just spinning your wheels just to make noise to further confuse the issues. If you both say who these people are you can't be sued for any thing . As a matter of fact these people you say are good/ great candidate material may just thank you both for your thoughts . Who knows!!!!! ,you just might get them to run for office in the next election and yes, they may be the best in the offices that is if they get elected . You said stay home if you aren't satisfied and that is wrong because one of the candidates has to be better than the other to get the job . It is every voters right to vote and they should do that and stop complaining on site and papers about things they do not agree with after not voting for or against the candidate[s]s. They have no right to complain after doing nothing at the polls,do they?

  49. OG says...as soon as Teflon Ted put his name on the ballot he became Mayor...too much name recogntion, clean image, and nice guy factor going for him...he doesn't excite me one bit but he and Dark City will be perfect for eachother...he could be our Mayor for a VERY long time so I hope you like what you get...once he is elected he will be a very difficult incumbent to defeat...save this post and pull it out 12 years from now and you will say "hey that friggin' OG called it back in 2011! Teflon Ted is still the Mayor here in Dark City !"

    ReplyDelete
  50. Time will tell so do not count on it. He has to win first before your opinion assessment is a fact.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Why is Sean getting killed for expressing an opinion about Downtown while Croce is writing to anyone who will publish about what he thinks the downtown needs? He's not an elected official either? Lets be fair people..

    ReplyDelete
  52. What does any of that have to do with Bob? I don't recall him being critical of Sean. Personally, I think it's great when candidates use whatever means they can to let us voters know where they stand. At least Fitzgerald and Croce are trying to do that. You can be critical of their opinions if you want, but at least they have the stones to state their opinions. Can't say the same for ANY of the other candidates.

    ReplyDelete
  53. It was a no brainer on the vote so he was only rubber-stamping how the vote would be. Just like when he did it to bettencourt over the appointments. Its like calling him a profit when they already told you the weather and you say the same thing like it has some weight...He does not take any risks with his opinion. He is a clone of bonfanti that will lose control. Call him Bizarro Mayor....

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hey, I'm a little worried as a Bettencourt supporter. Sean is working his ass off night and day and I think this is closer than some people might think. I hope Ted keeps working hard too because this thing is not over yet. I still think Ted will win, but I have heard some people lately saying how they are impressed with both of these guys and have not made up their minds yet. Anything can happen.

  64. Hi there! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any issues with
hackers? My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up losing months of hard work due to no back up.
Do you have any solutions to stop hackers?
